In addition to directing the choirs and teaching piano at Garfield, Dr. Timothy Black also conducts the Bellingham Community Chorus.

Tim Black is a celebrated international career music educator and conductor, having spent the last 12 years living and teaching choral music, AP Music Theory and Class Piano in Okinawa, Japan. In addition to being the 2014 Washington State SJMEA High School Honor Choir conductor, he was a frequent clinician and festival conductor throughout Japan, South Korea, Guam, Germany, Italy and South Africa, where he founded the South African Music Technology Project (SAMTP) and guest-lectured at the University of Pretoria.

Tim sang, played trumpet and coordinated auditions for the United States Air Force during operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and spent three years teaching K-12 music on the Nez Perce Indian Reservation in Kamiah, Idaho. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University.
