Concert Choir

The Garfield High School Concert Choir consists of approximately 60 singers from all grade levels. An audition is required to be in the Garfield Concert Choir. The Concert Choir meets as a class during regular school hours. The Concert Choir concentrates on the following beginning and intermediate music skills:  sight-reading, music literacy and performance skills. The repertoire ranges from classical to newly composed works and everything in between.

The Garfield Concert Choir participates in many activities including:
  • An annual back to school All-Choir Retreat with the Vocal Jazz ensemble at a nearby camp in the beautiful Pacific Northwest
  • The always popular choreographed and staged Winter Musical Revue
  • A number of traditional concerts held at Garfield’s state of the art Quincy Jones Performing Arts Center named after one of Garfield High School’s most illustrious alumni
  • An annual spring performance trip in the Pacific Northwest
  • A major trip every third year.  In 2010, for example, the Garfield Concert Choir and Vocal Jazz Ensemble performed at Carnegie Hall.
  • Hosts guest choirs from abroad.  For example, in 2008 the Kasugaoka Choir from Japan thrilled Garfield audiences with excerpts from Phantom of the Opera
